    That’s where the Marine Corps got “Oorah!” from.

      Yes! They heard the claxon on a car going by and answered back “Oorah”, thinking it was a mating call.

        That could be. I also heard it that was the sound submarines would make during the Korean War, when diving. The Marines aboard the subs, on recon duty, noticed how the sailors sprang into action upon hearing that sound. Later, when training other Marines, they would shout, “Ah-roogah!” as a signal to spring into action. That eventually got shortened to “Oorah!”
