The ARC Gloria, the official flagship of the Colombian Navy, was in the Port of San Francisco last weekend.
It couldn’t have been a more glorious weekend to pay a visit to this wonderful ship from Colombia.
We were met at the ramp onto the ship by shipmen who escorted us onboard where we were given a little tour, and then allowed to roam about to explore.
The ship was commissioned in 1968
I think the sailors are away from home quite a bit, staying in various ports to represent their country as goodwill ambassadors. They seem to stay well connected to friends and family.
Getting around on the ship was fun, and a bit more of a challenge for some more than others.
I have to include the Wikipedia photo of the ship taken at sunset in Cartagena

Lucky you! Happy to get a glimpse through your lovely images.

I was lucky..our grandson thought he was VERY lucky to be on that ship. And pure serendipity; we didn’t know it was in port, we just happened to be in the City for the day.

That’s an incredible ship, Angeline. It would have been something to see as it sailed into — or out of, for that matter — the Bay.

Beautiful ship! I was privileged to see Op Sail 2000 in Portland Maine and watched a parade of tall ships, some from South America, rounding the Portlandhead Light. Awesome sight!

That must have been a gorgeous spectacle to see the ships out there rounding the Portlandhead Light. I’m going to have to find a listing for San Francisco’s incoming and outgoing ships to maybe get there to see one setting sail.
