The Sunday Traveler~San Antonio Street Art Initiative

The Sunday Traveler never ceases to be amazed by the seemingly constant innovations going on in San Antonio, Texas. The current Street Art Initiative going full steam ahead was one of those amazements for me on my most recent trip back home; it was started in 2018 to encourage the public’s appreciation for street art and perception of it as art beyond graffiti and tagging, and seeing it on the same level as art equal to museum gallery art. The header photo above is on the wall of a building in town, the rest of the photos I’ll show in today’s post were recently painted under Interstate 35, one of the freeways that traverses San Antonio.

When I arrived here I felt like Alice in Wonderland, and that I had fallen down the rabbit hole.

The detail and calibre of artist’s work here is absolutely excellent for being painted on such a large “canvas”.

I’ll continue next week with more street art in other areas around town.

Thanks for sharing this. I love street art and it is so cool to know cities are beginning to understand it’s value. So many people do t get to see art because they find galleries intimidating.

What a cool idea of using the space of interstate highway for street art!
