The entrance walls to Ek Balam, ancient Mayan ruins in Yucatan. What do these walls reveal about the peoples that lived here? I’ve never felt such a pull as here. It was good that we could touch these walls, they weren’t roped off. They were accessible to me who didn’t mean to, but found myself in search of my ancestors. And found them here. I could feel it. Walls can block us off, or they can invite us through.

The call of this wall was such that I hadn’t even thought of it as an obstacle, or barrier. It just told me it was open for me.

The number of trees surrounding the ruins was lovely. I really felt I was in the jungle.
