An Iris flips its petals to show a pretty striped petticoat. There is something about the Iris that is so graceful; and in purple, I was mesmerized.
I chose another flower in the same flowerbed for a different angle, and I deepened the purple in edits.
And to see what a Samsung app could do, I tried Photo Oil Painter for this last look
It’s interesting that the first photo, and the last photo done with a painterly app look pretty similar. There’s that Iris beauty. Which is your favorite?

P.S. It’s not easy to chose the favourite, but I would go with the first one.

Even before seeing the Oil Photo Paint edit I thought there was a watercolour quality to your shots. Very lovely, Angeline.

Thanks, Paula. Close ups of flowers like this seem to have a painterly quality to them most of the time.

I’m sorry, Angeline, I refuse to pick. I’m too busy enjoying the beauty of the rich color while the sunshine streams through the windows. Blues are favorites of mine, so you can well imagine that I’m immersing myself in these photos.

I like them all. The first for how the light catches the folds. The second for how the details pop. And the third because it looks like a dream.

Thanks, Roshan. I love making images with my phone’s camera, definitely look into trying one as an adjunct to your regular camera. The phone is always with me and when I see something I want to photograph I’m ready if I don’t have my camera with me.

I prefer the first, but just a teensy bit more than the second – I have a dear friend who is an artist and she paints flowers, mostly tulips, like an old Dutch master – magnificently – and it would be fun for you to see her work. Go to http://www.jane@janejonesartist.com – and her story is in my book The Creative Epiphany. Maybe I have given you her name before?

I remember you speaking of her…and now I’ll have to go re-read her chapter in The Creative Epiphany; and thanks for her link. There is just something so wonderful to capture photos of flowers like this, and I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to paint them. Thanks, Jo!

Angeline, what vibrant hues. That second image really captures the delicate beauty of the iris. Isn’t it marvelous what macro can show us that we often do not notice. Happy Photo Challenge.
