To see the real action, just migrate up a couple of blocks from the tourist area of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Weekends seem especially busy with people buying produce for the week, or maybe just that evening’s meal.
I spent an afternoon wandering up and down just about two square blocks of Chinatown, entranced by the street stands with fresh vegetables and fruit. And the people. It was a busy place!
I think this could be any place in the world. This just happens to be my little corner of said world.
I know Chinatown is in the tourist book, but venture further than the few streets mentioned in the book. It’s just a matter of blocks.
I’ll post a few more photos here and there throughout the weeks to come.
Great shots!

You have managed to captured the energy of street life in these photo. At the same time there is the vintage kind of look to them – as Randall points out – that makes them special. Very nice, Angeline.

These are great shots, almost a vintage type of look to them ~ it is the way I envision SF’s China Town markets, always active with people who buy daily veggies for freshness 🙂

Thanks, Randall. I had one of those great afternoons with photo ops everywhere I turned. I think these markets are probably always busy, but Saturday’s the streets just hum. I love it.

Chinatown in SF is one place I’ve seen back and forth within 10 years. I felt like grabbing those sugar canes. 🙂
