In The Alley

The alleys in San Francisco’s Chinatown are a treasure trove for photography. I went down Ross Alley in search of a fortune cookie factory I had read about a while back, but couldn’t remember its exact location; with several stops to ask for help, I was directed down this alley of wonders. Gated doors, fire escapes leading down from wonderful old windows (yes, the fire escapes excited me), a stream of people with carts and grocery bags filled with the day’s produce from the nearby street markets, using the alley as a thruway from one street to the next, the Parker Hotel.

Agree the alley is almost more impressive than the factory ~ although I have to admit a two person team running the factory is just great… Cheers to a great day!

It looks the perfect place for a photographer who can, like you… no birds so I’d probably make a mess of it….
