I don’t usually think Christmas in black and white, but this angel I recently spotted in a shop lends itself to another side of holiday color.
Today’s blog at Lens and Pens by Sally discusses the origins of Kodak moments, and also a photographer, Tina Modotti, who has a wonderful body of work that inspires me to further pursue this avenue in making photos.
Photo taken with a Samsung Galaxy.

I agree with you, Angeline, and everyone else. She’s a beauty and B&W suits her very well. I wonder what her original use was and whether she was part of an orchestra. Wouldn’t that have been something to see?

She has a harp or lyre in her hand, so I imagine she was part of the Hark the Herald Angels rock group.

For B&W it;s a great choice.

Yes, indeed, it works well in monochrome to observe the details of her face. She looks as though she were made in the Art Nouveau era of the early twentieth century. There is something real and unreal in the conversion, which I like. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks, Sally. Her face is interesting, and the deletion of color (which wasn’t a lot to begin with, she was silver) added some nice shadow around her face.

You have captured a lot of movement around the central figure with the curved lines and arcs. Nicely done.

You’re right about that, it’s not really a black and white holiday–as long as you’re in the spirit. Nice take on the dark side.

Thanks, Jann. The spirit has hit me now. I told a salesperson yesterday that I had just begun Christmas shopping, and he said it seemed a little late. I told him it’s never too late.

I’m slowly warming my way into the season, too! There’s a great adage I keep in mind: “Act As If.”

That adage is a good one, and one I hadn’t thought of in awhile…thanks for the reminder.
