Thanks, Su. I shot the photo at mid-day, and I think the light really lended itself well to the coloring that I didn’t change too much in edits.

Last weekend up in the mountains we cut open a pinecone to find the pine nut – just to see what the squirrels and the bears are fattening up on for the winter. It is a feeding frenzy up there, animals gone wild with the hunt for high calorie food because winter is already threatening with snow expected in the area soon – maybe this week! So we cut one open and found the nut and tasted it – nutty and delicious – but it takes a heck of a lot of those to make a bear feel full, since they need to eat 20,000 calories a day to get fat.

I can’t imagine how many a bear would need to feel satisfied. Wow! And snow already? We’re going to have what I think/hope is a final blast of summer heat over the rest of this week and weekend before a cool down.

Thanks, Sally. I was waiting for someone outside, looked down, leaned down, and snapped the photo for the challenge. I didn’t look at it until later in the day, and was pleased with how it worked out. It is indeed a joy to see more intricate details through macro.
