I do enjoy B&W photography and, oftentimes, actually prefer it, Angeline. Still, when it comes to capturing nature, B&W leaves out so much. Yes, I can see detail in the B&W flower but look at the variety of hues in the color shot. To my eye, that’s where the real beauty is.

  2. I have to go for the color image, though the black and white is stunning to be sure. But somehow the color brings more clarity to it. It’s always fun to see a few variations.

So beautiful! The textures are indeed enhanced in the B&W, but I prefer the colour version as well.

Do we have to pick? They’re both stunning.

  5. While I do like the color, I think a little more post work is needed on the b/ w. Filters alone will not do it, one needs to burn and dodge to bring into focus the flower. Just my two cents.

I tend to try only certain of my photos in B&W just to see what they look like. Nature photos in monochrome always surprise me in how lovely they can be, and it’s due to that detail it picks up.

  12. In this instance I like them both. The monochrome allowing for details, and the color one emphasizes one of the final stages of the coneflower. Happy Photo Challenge.

The monochrome definitely does show off detail, and I’m really beginning to see that more and more in my work now…..but I still struggle with giving up the color. Thanks, Sally.

  13. This is definitely one of your wow! ones. I was thinking how lovely the B&W one is, and that I would probably like it better than the colour version. And then I saw the colour version! So beautiful – worthy of framing.
