I took one last walk in the old neighborhood last Thursday before we moved on Friday. It was the bucolic little suburban neighborhood out on the edge of Northern California’s Central Valley country; a pretty good combination for me. But both my husband and I were ready for our move and change in living environment. Back to San Francisco’s East Bay and “civilization”, a fantastic vibrant life style; and we’ve moved back to apartment living, downsizing tremendously. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about this later. I’m eager to get out there with my camera….right after I unpack a few more boxes.

That’s a fascinating photo – I like the way the shadows make the pavement look so bent.

I hadn’t noticed that part, Suzanne! The sidewalks were a little crookedy in spots there.

Gorgeous photo Angeline and I will miss all your pictures from your old home! But how incredibly exciting to more back to the city! Think of all the new photo opps you will have!

Thanks, Nicole. The old place is just 30 miles away, so I’ll probably go back every now and then with my camera when I start missing the fields and the cows. I definitely have a huge amount of photo opportunities around me now.

I can’t wait to get in there. I go into the City a lot, but plan on stretching out of my usual haunts to new areas for some new scenes.

A great image to leave with. I love the strong shadows of the picket fence, contrasting the white fence itself. Very nice. I wish you all the best with the moving.

First of all, congratulations on the move and all the best with the unpacking. That’s quite a change of venue! 🙂 We sold our house just about a year ago and had to move or redistribute 20 years worth of things in one week. An interesting experience.
I love the stark contrast between the dark and the light in this photo. Perhaps in an unconscious way it highlights the sharp differences between the two living places.

Very dramatic interpretation of your old picket fences, Angeline – looks as though you’d already moved into ‘inner-city’ mode! Good luck with the unpacking 🙂

Thanks, M. I think that walk, and that scene was a parting gift. I gave away so much stuff in prep for the move, but apparently not enough. Unpacking seems to go on forever (with more to give away now), mixed in with all the other day to day things that need to get done.

You’ve captured light playing with such exuberance–a sort of send off for your new life in the East Bay. Cannot wait to see your discoveries. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks so much, Sally; it was mid-morning, and the light was great. We used to live in the East Bay for many years, moved away to return now, 12 years later. The years have brought a lot of great changes to the area, we’re already having fun exploring, and returning to old haunts as well.

Fab capture Angeline. As I grow older, there is no getting away from the practicality of apartment living. And of downsizing, I am sure you will love it, and treat us to glimpses of that vibrant lifestyle 🙂

Thanks, Madhu. I am already loving this apartment, and its efficiency. It’s so close to so many things, best of all the Bay Area Rapid Transit system to whisk me into San Francisco in a mere half hour!!!

yes but isn’t it the same fence you sent me a framed photo of? The one I love?

Nope, it’s down the street. The one I sent you is a fence railing at the Country Store where the mailroom was.

Good luck with unpacking the boxes! I shall be interested to hear how you manage with downsizing…I shall have to do the same before too long – how to get rid of so much ‘stuff’?!

Thanks, Sue. I gave furniture and other things to kids who needed/wanted it (sometimes sending out a text message to all four of them saying the first to respond would get it…worked every time). I also donated tons of stuff to GoodWill, the local donations center. I’ve been reading a lot about minimalism and letting go of “stuff”, and I’m really subscribing to this (it’s not easy sometimes).

When you are used to things being around (books for example) I’m sure I will have moments of thinking I’ll find x in y and of course y is no longer there!

This is such a dramatic change. X and y are almost not part of the equation anymore. I was ready to let go.
