The Sunday Traveler: Oh The People You’ll Meet

Reno, I’ve discovered as I’ve mentioned in my previous Sunday Traveler posts, is not the boring biggest little city after all. Each time we’ve gone back recently I’ve started to dig around, much like the gold and silver miners in them thar hills, and I’ve been able to shout “Eureka”!

The last trip taken a couple of weeks ago had the Sunday Traveler discovering Midtown Reno, a stretch of S. Virginia Street that is being brought back to life with nice little bistros and pubs. And…I found the most fantastic store that is part costume store, part consignment, and part antique store; the store is called Junkee. The employee in the photo above was trying on some new pants that had just been brought in to sell, and was most happy to model for me.

This customer was also quite pleased that I would ask to take his photo as he shopped (yes, those are his shorts he is wearing, he was not out in the store in his skivvies). This gentleman had that je ne sais quoi look that attracted my attention.

And then there was Pinky

I spotted Pinky trying on this stole, and we struck up a conversation on its merits and how great it looked on her. I hope I and her friend convinced her to make the purchase.

Next Sunday I’ll run a few more photos from Junkee’s great wall posters and hats (I really got in to the hats).

The Sunday Traveler wishes everyone a good week.

  4. These articles and photos are the best, Angeline. I’m really enjoying them. That Pinky looks a bit like Kim Basinger.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying them; that makes it all worthwhile when I hear things like this, thanks! I wish I could tell Pinky this, she would love that I am sure!

I’ve often said that the best part of resale/antique/2nd hand shops are the customers. You’ve proved my point at Junkees. Sure, I’d love to browse around but my fellow shoppers would certainly get my attention. Thanks for sharing, Angeline. This was a great little gallery.

Thanks, M. Better the people are characterful and not grisly ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you’re still refreshed from your Reno holiday? How’s the packing up going?

Yes, we have to put everything in perspective. I’m finishing up cleaning out. I’ve given so much stuff away as we are going to a much smaller place. Packing up should be much easier now. Still very relaxed after Reno, and am looking forward to Hawaii towards the end of September ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Won’t that be wonderful! I know how you love it there Angeline. Glad you’ve managed to ‘get rid’ of lots of stuff – it certainly does help with the packing, though I found I did two more culls between then and finally arranging my shelves here! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a feeling that is what I’ll be doing too. I figure I’ve got it down to what I think will all work and fit, but once we actually get in there I may see differently.

Thanks for the article, and this website. I actually began on a minimalist path awhile back. I’ve been reading other blogs on this, so I’ve been giving away with abandon. It feels so darn good to let go. And as we said, I’m sure when I get to the new place I’ll let go of more. It’s amazing what we amass.

      • I was staggered at what I’d shipped all the way from Oz to Sri Lanka, then at the amount of ‘stuff’ I managed to add to it in just five years!
So glad you’ve been letting go for a while – that’s an important step, I think. I’m still feeling a bit tied down by ‘things’, but I’ve made a resolution not to add anything without letting something else go, and that feels a bit more controlled! ๐Ÿ™‚
