Two recent posts I’ve read in as many days, have asked and discussed why we take photographs. Since delving and dabbling into this art form of photography I’ve begun to see things differently; subtle hues, shade, shadow and shapes. I cannot resist capturing the beauty that surrounds me in the everyday, a moment in time frozen into forever. And as I think about why I take photographs, I begin to think that it is a form of gratitude that I offer up to the Universe for the beauty that is here for all of us to see.
Photo taken with a Samsung Galaxy phone camera.

Thanks also to Sally Donatello, who programs each week’s phoneography challenge, the time and work she puts in to this project is phenomenal. The official title of the challenge has just been changed to Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge. You can find her post for today, with her photos and a link to a wonderful photographer, here.

I don’t see many around either, or at least mentioning they use a Samsung. I’ve had mine about nine months now, had an iPhone prior that died. I still haven’t found apps for editing photos as good as the ones I used on iPhone, but I’ve been lazy in researching this, and need to get to it!

Chexk out my posts on Android Apps and Apps that are on both iOS and Android. I too used to be on an iPhone… til the Samsung wooed me over.

I am stunned this is with a phone camera. Tell me, why am I working so hard with my camera to get the “perfect” photos”? This is absolutely stunning!

Phone cameras can just do amazing things. A little post photo processing to dress it up, and wonders can ensue. I use both, phone camera, and digital with a lot more range with the digital of course. But always have my phone with me so that gets used a lot for photography/phoneography.
And thanks so much for following my blog, Amy.

Thanks so much, John. There are just certain scenes I walk past sometimes that stop me in my tracks, and I know I have to get a photo of it. This one almost yelled at me to stop.

That is an amazingly beautiful photo. You have indeed seen both lights and shadows here, put it together with a lovely subject and transcended it to pure beauty.

Thanks, Carol. This is a neighbor’s home a few blocks from me that I pass very frequently when I’m out for walks. A couple of years ago I featured the palms on the other side of their house. I would also love to see behind that gate.

Angeline, I like not only the light and shadow but the texture and lines you captured here. I agree that once you see things as possible photos, everything changes. If I go for an exercise walk, I have to not take my phone or else limit myself to only stopping on the way back because otherwise I never get going enough to get exercise. 🙂

Thanks, Janet. All the shapes and texture almost shouted out to me as I walked past. I try to do the same when out for a walk for exercise…or get on my treadmill and then go out for a photo walk (bonus points).

The tread on my treadmill gave out after not only years of me walking on it but years of my parents using it. Since we were going to move, I didn’t get another one, so right now I’m trying to get outside, which is great but more tempting from a photography POV!
