Who can resist? The clam chowder, or a walkabout around the wharf. Even when you’re not a tourist. I live a little over an hour away from San Francisco, and need a periodic day here to have a look around and have a walk-away seafood cocktail or bowl of clam chowder for lunch. Watching the vendors and fish mongers is fun, and the energy here with the hustle and bustle of the crowds is always exciting. Can you imagine this place back in the 1800’s when it all started? Italian immigrant fishermen set up shop to catch the influx of people coming in on the gold rush.

Angeline, revisiting this post and subsequent comments, I can now smell Fisherman’s Wharf this morning, that heavy salt and steamy scent of crab and lobster from the sidewalk, even though I haven’t been there in at least thirty years. Nice job all, a wonderful diversion.

When we moved down to Southern California for several years, I used to really yearn for San Francisco. I was happy to move back up here. It’s a wonderful city! I have to wonder what that little boy was thinking of the crab. Hope you can visit soon.

The smells are another vibrant part of the wharf…and part of what makes it hard to resist the wonderful foods there. It might just be time for another little trip there for me.
