The storm doors seem to have opened. Northern California is getting the rain that is more usual for this time of year, storms coming in off the Pacific from the Hawaiian Islands; it’s called the Pineapple Express.
The wind blowing through the trees, plants and grasses seems to be singing an ode of joy and gratitude to the Universe.
Every creature seems to rejoice
I would like to introduce you to a blogger I’ve recently found here on WordPress, he’s a rancher in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and writes incredibly beautiful poems on his blog, drycrikjournal. John’s poem today says it all for those of us living in this beautiful area of Northern California.
So wonderful to see those raindrops! And – those photos are so spectacular, so breathtaking, I can’t seem to find the words! You are so talented!!! Thanks for this refreshing post – made my day! 🙂

so thrilled for you Californians! We are very crispy dry here suddenly, hot winds, no rain, high temperatures, big bushfires in Victoria …. we need rain too 🙂

Thanks, Christine. Now we’ll have to start exporting our rain 🙂
Hope you get better weather soon too.

I live partly in the rainy city of Bergen, Norway, but the last month there has hardly been any precipitation. It really seems like the climate is quite messed up…

I really do think climate change is at full throttle, and who knows where it is going. Crazy weather for sure.

I am glad rain came in your part of the country at last. I hope there’d be more to reverse the effects of drought.

Thanks, Imelda. We’ll have to wait and see what the final outcome is.

Thank you! My goodness, in all due respect, may I suggest you take a little breather? The blogging seems to have you very stressed.

Nah, I learned about 6 months ago to just answer what I can. When I first started it did feel stressful to answer all the people I have connected with here grateful) but then I gradually learned to just take my time and post my photos when I can. I am not a writer though! : )

Good! I was kind of worried about you. This is all about sharing our own unique creativity.

I heard on NPR that the city is looking for under water source, but it’s not a feasible solution…

I remember something about the Edwards Aquifer from years ago…I have to google that. Is that what they’re still talking about?

It might be last Thursday or Friday, I can’t recall the name. But, the suggestion/proposal was rejected due to some environment issues…

Interesting! I think that’s exactly what was being proposed so many years ago when we lived there, and it was never approved because of environmental issues then!

Really?! I guess they can’t come up with any other options.

We’re having some drizzly, cloudy days, but nothing in the rain gauge since I arrived, five months ago. For the ‘natives’ here, it hasn’t rained in two years … you can imagine the scenes in the countryside. So I know what you’re talking about. So glad for you. I don’t suppose the Pineapple Express usually visits the City of Angels, but lets hope they get some further south 🙂

We’re overjoyed at the rain we’ve gotten, but we’re told it’s very far from what is needed to end the drought….but I’m happy for every little drop. I think it’s been enough to start greening things up a little. More rain coming next week, so I’m hoping this keeps going to at least save crops and cattle. I don’t know if the Express goes in to Southern Cal or not. Last I saw, they were still dry.

It’s quite terrible and frightening, really. Lets hope for the best 🙂

Yes, the weather people here have said we need so much more, so we can’t feel really comfortable with the recent rains. It is frightening!

Especially in California, where the Southern cities are so entirely dependent on water harvested from the inland which was once used for farming.

Exactly! SoCal gets their water from NorCal, our area here in the Central Valley. So it’s a sticky wicket.

It’s great to snuggle up inside and look out at clouds, wind and rain! Yup, much more is needed. I hope we at least squeak by with what we’re getting now.
