The Faces of The Voladores (Those who Fly)

facevolador1

As promised, here are the Voladores de Papantla (see my post on their flying here) , hanging out between shows in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

The group seemed to thoroughly enjoy each other’s company

And a photo that I love, one of the Voladores, after descending from “flight”, saluting the Virgen de Guadalupe (carved in sand on the beach). This Virgen is the patroness of Mexico and revered by all Mexicans

Until next time, when we will begin a visit to the town of Valladolid in Yucatan.

An usual take on these incredible men. Usually we only see their death defying acts, not the faces behind them.

  12. Is it beading on their clothes? From the last photos I thought it was embroidery but looking at these photos I’m not so sure. Colourful whatever it is.

Si son leyendas, verdad? I also saw them as a kid and never forgot them; to see them again now, so many years later, was a thrill. Thanks for stopping in Raphael!
