There’s nothing that says arrival like hearing those Mexican Immigration inspector’s stamp, stamp, stamp on your passport and visa. It always sounds so official. You have arrived….”bienvenido/welcome”; you are handed your passport and visa, and you walk into a new adventure.
We arrived in the late evening, hopped onto the hotel shuttle at the airport in a pretty heavy rain, but no matter, it was a tropical 80 degrees. A light dinner and nightcap at the hotel bar, and we were ready to head out in the morning to Cancun’s Mercado 28 (a much talked about marketplace we had read about).
We were told the best way to get to the Mercado 28 was by the local shuttle that traverses the hotel zone with downtown Cancun. We took the R2, the most direct shuttle
It was a party bus! Who knew? Crazy salsa music blaring, I felt like dancing. Each bus driver on these shuttles seems to set the mood for his bus, and this guy was fun! What better way than this to go into downtown Cancun for the first time. A rolling disco dance for $9 pesos (about 70 cents U.S.).
And into the Mercado 28 we went. I’ve displayed photos in a gallery, just click on any photo to open it up.
The places and peoples of Cancun are vibrant and alive with color; our first day in was great.
We headed back to the hotel for some rest at the end of the day
The adventure was just getting started. Next up, Tulum.
A lovely set f photos, Angeline but I will admit that I sighed when I came upon the last one, the view of the water. It says so much to me without so much as uttering a sound.

Vibrant it is!!! The murals, the dresses and those guitars! The guitars are my favorite. P9, that’s about the same in the Philippines, but about c20 for us. Still cheap for a dollar-paying visitor. 😀

Thanks, Rommel. Those guitars caught my eye! Some things were cheaper there, but pretty much on par for the dollar.

That bus driver was a good tourism bonus! Got everybody on the bus in a happy, holiday mood and ready to shop at the Mercado.

Bought a little woven coin purse and a pair of shorts…it was hot! But the better part of the day was just walking around enjoying all there was to see. And eating a delicious fish soup for lunch.
