Home on the range. Cattle out on the Altamont Pass in Northern California. And to quote Sally in her post today, “I am, however, amazed at the lack of commitment that humankind has for its most serious partner in life’s journey. Without Mother Nature we are doomed. On the other hand she can do very well indeed without us.” So very true. This Altamont Pass endures the harshest of winter cold, the verdant euphoria of spring, the dried golden beauty of summer; it has endured fires that rage for acres, and yet it comes back. As do the cattle.
Lens and Pens by Sally has more on black and white phoneography on her post; don’t miss it.

The texture of the grasses alone are enough to delight me each and every time we drive over to the other side of the Pass. Thanks, Patti.

I love this. It’s almost abstract in a way; pattern, texture, light, and shadow. Beautiful.

The B&W really does underscore the vastness and desolation of the Pass. Nicely done, Angeline.

Thanks, John. The Altamont is beautiful in its wildness, and the beauty changes with each season.

It’s amazing how they can thrive in such exposed landscapes. 🙂

It is indeed. The summers can be in the 100 degree F range, and winters in the low 30 degree F range, if not colder.

I like the way the cattle look so small.

Thanks, Janet. Seen from a distance in a moving car. It gives them good proportion to the hills around them.

Most people take such a scene closer to the subjects. What I like about yours is the distance, showing the vastness of nature in comparison to the animals. Well done. Happy Phoneography Monday.

I love those cattle out there, many hanging on the side of a hill grazing. They are just so beautiful!
Thanks.
