The cathedral is the oldest United States cathedral built by settlers from the Canary Islands
Walking into the church provided a wonderful respite from the heat, and as always for me, when entering a historical place of prayer, provided a powerful feeling of peace.

Very nice pictures. I feel awkward when I’m entering church as for travel destination. But nobody can blame us, it’s almost like a sin not to capture a beautiful and significant church. 😀

Thanks, Patti. Definitely a lot of history here. The remains of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and I forget who the other guy is, are in a marble coffin right inside the entrance to the cathedral.

They don’t make churches like this anymore, Angeline. The cathedral was beautiful and that baptismal font spectacular. Such a lovely place to worship. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I read an earlier comment about the yellowish tint…but I just wanted to say that I love it. It gives the shots a warm glow and ethereal quality. Nice post 🙂

Hi, and thanks on your feedback. I truly like people to express their thoughts on my photos and question them. I’m learning with every photo and comment like these. I’m glad you like the tint as well. It is my interpretation of that glow in a holy place. But, I also need to know if it is more of a distraction. I’m glad to know you like it too.

Great pictures. I wonder though why the interior shots have this yellowish tint? Was this a setting issue though the clarity remains superb.
So what were your thoughts after the visit?

Glad you stopped in to comment. I shot the first interior photo, having forgotten to change the ISO, and did not have the flash on. I sort of liked the way it looked with the golden/yellow tint….sort of ethereal, so I decided to go for it in that setting. I’m glad you asked this question, and I’d love to hear back from you on if you think it’s distracting, or takes away from the photo. We’ll be traveling to Mexico in a few months, and I plan to photograph a lot of churches, so your feedback is invaluable to me.
After the visit I was completely blown away by the beauty of this old cathedral and its history.

Well, now that you mention it, it certainly does. I can see you strolling from icon to icon, studying each closely, hands behind your back. And people would see you and whisper to each other that a professor is visiting and studying the cathedral.
