I discovered this fungus growing on a tree stump behind a bush in my garden.
It almost appears to have taken on the tree rings that are on the stump
Or maybe this isn’t a fungus at all, but a wood growth of some kind of the tree stump. I’m not brave enough to touch it for consistency.
Thanks to Lens and Pens by Sally for the weekly phoneography challenge.
Love the textures. The last is almost like fossilised stone!

It does look like stone. Amazing that it takes on the rings from the stump.

A series of fun pictures. I like the abstraction the framing, the perspective and the composition made of these fungus. My favourite is the second image, I really like the texture of this one.

It was interesting to frame the different photos in different perspectives and compositions. It is too big a fungus to put the whole thing in macro, so it was a fun little challenge. Thanks, Otto.

There’s a fungus amongus. 🙂 They’re truly weird and beautiful, aren’t they, and stumps seem to be a favorite growing spot. Lovely shots.

I just knew someone would come in with a fungus amongus line 🙂 I would have been sorely disappointed otherwise.
Thanks, Janet.

There is even beauty to be found with the lowly fungus. Most of us walk past this or something very similar all of the time. Your excellent macro photos prove that there’s more to fungus than meets the eye.

Thanks, John. I have never seen fungus on tree stumps before, and the “flower” it’s made is lovely.

Ah, that is kind of cool. Did you eat any?

I decided to go for it. I just cut some up and tossed it in our dinner salad…..NOT! But I was just out there looking at it again, it fascinates me.

Very nice series–I like the last the best. If I did not know the subject, then I would think that they were polished rock. Happy Phoneography Monday.

Amazing photo. It reminded me of an incredible TED talk I heard, by Paul Stamets, on mushrooms saving the world. I kid you not, it was fascinating. 🙂

I’m going to have to look that one up. Sounds really interesting. They will save the world unless you eat the wrong one.
