Phoneography Challenge: Black and White

blackandwhiteolddoor

Found this in a garden pottery shop in American Canyon, near Napa, California, a couple of weekends ago. I’ll have a few more coming in this series from this fabulous garden store.

It would be nice to have the two to contrast, the muted colors versus the strict B/W.
I wonder if the painterly quality would also be in the color photo?

I’ve done that before, shown both the color and a black and white version of the photo, but have decided to do that only on limited occasions. I’m not sure I understand “painterly” quality???

Looks like a painting rather than a photo —
Hard to explain why but simple to recognize in seeing it!
You see the “hand” of the photographer, not only the “eye”?

Hmmmm, hope that’s a good thing. I’ve vacillated between “editing” a photo and just going with the straight out of camera. When I started really getting more into photography, I didn’t like the idea of processing or editing a photo, but now I find it all part of the creativity sometimes, something like painting.

  5. It’s perfect in black and white! Is there an app that’s just for shooting in monotone? I’m slowly seeing the beauty of B&W.

A lovely black and white images so rich in details. Those two faces makes for an interesting juxtaposition to the worn-out door and wall.

Thank you, Otto. The door does have a lot of detail that I like, and I’m glad it could be brought out in the photo. Those faces, I think they’re dogs, are rather funny.
