Spring Break

Spring break in my backyard. I call the birds in the pool  birdbath the rowdies.  A group of them hop around the edge and then jump in and splash about like kids. I can always tell when they’ve been in for a swim, even if I don’t see them in action; there is water all over the sidewalk and fence. At the end of the day, what’s left of the water is a mess, full of feathers and dirt. I wash out the bath every evening, and fill er up; and listen to the birds in the trees above me, twittering back and forth, the mama birds telling the kids to settle down, story time coming up soon, as soon as the dishes are done. They twitter some more, and  I could almost believe that they are watching me, and are saying “thank you, lady, for the fresh water”. I always look up and say “you’re welcome”.
