iPhoneography Monday: Black and White

The same photo using iPhone Camera+ edited with two different apps.

The first photo is edited with Luminance, Crush Black and White. The second photo is edited with Camera+ FX Effects, Ansel.  A slight variance.  Enough to choose one over the other?

I took the photo early this evening, and it was overcast , there’s a promise of rain on the way, so didn’t have to worry about a bright sky to tone down.

Beautiful! I prefer the softer feel of the second. I have been experimenting with B&W too, and am beginning to like it 🙂

Thank you Madhu. Amazing how things keep coming up for me to learn and practice on. I think I am liking the second one too, exactly for, as you say, the softer feel.

Some shots almost demand the starkness(?) of black & white. This is one. Of the two, version, I prefer the smooth lines of the 2nd.

  8. I’m glad you’re rethinking the monotones Angeline – some subjects almost demand it, I think – and look what you produced this morning! At first I thought I preferred the stylised version, but on third or fourth thought, perhaps softness of the more realistic second shot is more appealing. 🙂

I keep scrolling up and down on those two. The only thing that makes me lean towards the first one is the “luminance” of the roof on the first one; I’m not particularly liking the branches in the first one.
