A beautiful Catholic church in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. The Italian Cathedral of the West.
It was on these steps that Joe DiMaggio stood with Marilyn Monroe for photographs in 1954 after their civil wedding; he was divorced from another woman, had not had that marriage annulled, and therefore could not be married in the church again.
Let’s step inside and see what Marilyn missed out on.
Masses are held in English, Italian, and Mandarin at various times of the day on Sunday. The church is in the Italian neighborhood of North Beach that borders on Chinatown.
Lovely church! The statue of the angel with the shell shaped bowl is beautiful!

Thanks. I keep studying that angel; her robe is so lovely with the almost imperceptible pattern. I love angels.

Thanks The church is absolutely beautiful. It had been years since I had made a little visit to Washington Square and SS Peter and Paul. It’s a great area of the City.
