San Francisco. A city like no other. From the Embarcadero, to Coit Tower, to Russian Hill, to the Avenues, to The Haight, and to North Beach. Japan Town, China Town, The Mission. It’s all there, wrapped up in 49 square miles of magical, mystical beauty.

Great photographs. It’s always fun to play with the long telephoto lenses and the compression of perspective they give. My favourite is the second one. It gives a different view of San Francisco, not the usual one, with the cranes in the foreground. The light is magical in all of the photos, and I like that yellow, gloomy colour to it.

Thanks so much Otto. These were my first “practice” shots using the manual settings on my new camera; previously I was afraid to do this, and stuck to the auto mode. I surprised myself!

the sky looks magical….is there a reason it is so foggy ???

Fog is pretty typical in San Francisco. Something to do with the air flow over the Pacific as it comes in off the open ocean….doesn’t that sound scientific?

No denying that! Maybe it’s more magical when the sun comes out.
