Project 365, Day 141; If I Were a Painter

Art. Painting. Photography. Creativity.  I stretch for more.

I walked through an art/craft store over the weekend, my mind whirling with desire. Ever since working with the iPhone app, ArtistaOil, my lust for painting intensifies.

I lovingly gazed upon the paints with the oh so wonderful names; Cerulean Blue, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna

Exotic. What does one do with these? Gum Arabic, Ox Gall Liquid. Oil Painting Medium I and II…is there a III, I wonder.

For now, I’ll be content to dip the virtual brush of iPhone’s ArtistaOil onto my photographs

    Hi, Angeline!

Beautiful pictures; thank you for sharing them. Though I consider myself not an artist in the traditional sense, I often spend hours walking up and down the aisles of Michaels’ Arts and Crafts store, just dreaming . . . Occasionally I’ll pick up a blank canvas and let it sit around for inspiration. 🙂

    Nice to meet you!

    Blessings,
    Cara

Hi Cara, definitely good to see you here. Thank you for your compliment. You know, I was going to title this post “If I Were an Artist”, but quickly deleted that, because all of us, as writers, photographers, sketchers, painters, are artists. I grew up thinking artists were people who painted on canvas, but came to realize how limited my view was….but I was young then. Another good idea you give me here…a blank canvas for inspiration! I actually had one in my hands when I was in Michael’s.
      Thanks for your words,
      Angeline

Go for it Angeline. You could start small, with no stress.

Michael’s has a lot of starter kits that are inexpensive. Buy a watercolor kit with basic colors, brushes and a pad and just splash paint around. Don’t aim for anything but just get the feel for the paint . Play with laying paint onto wet paper, paint onto dry. Lay out layers of wash on the paper and see how the colors blend.

Thank you for this idea!!!!! This excites me….I will be at Michael’s this weekend! I also saw a sign in the store that they have classes…..dare I? You’ve inspired me. Maybe I can be another Grandma Moses.

Love those conversions! I love painting…I miss it. Maybe one day when life is less hectic for me I can return to it. I will have to find that program though I really love the look and how you’ve done them!

  9. Interesting program you are using here, Angeline. Especially on your first photo it works very nice. Getting into painting or drawing is a good adventure. It is my favourite sometime alternative to photography and most of the time I carry a small pocketable sketchbook with me.

Thanks Joseph. This program, ArtistaOil, is amazing to me. I took an art class in charcoal very many years ago, and it was hard work for me. I got a couple of nice pieces out of the class, but I never continued. I may try that sketchbook idea to get started again.
