I took this photo last week. Lamplight or moonlight, both can light your way.

I made a point of leaving my SLR at home during my 2 last trips…using only an 8 megapixel HDR Nokia….the medium is quirky but i have got some good shots when i understood the units strengths and limitations….lousy landscape capture but include some depth of field standard in the foreground and the pictures stand out….close ups and portraiture ditto….still experimenting.

Thanks for the input. We’ve got a few trips planned, with another “big” one to Hawaii again next November; I need to really decide. I may do a “test” day next time I go in to San Francisco and see what kind of shots I can get with the phone in that type of environment where I can play tourist.

Love this post! Great capture and your words are fitting…
Your big girl camera was it a Nikon or a Canon?

Thanks! The camera was an Olympus. I don’t know very much about cameras, so I got it. It took what I think are great photos (all those I took in Kauai in November and until about end February) and then it froze in the zoom mode….deader than a door nail. Got my money back though!

Well I am glad that you were able to get your money back. My wife has had 2 Olympus cameras and both died within a year so although I have heard and seen that they take great pictures I am leery of purchasing anything from them.
The only reason I asked is because you can save a great deal of money by going with Canon’s refurbished items. Typically they are used but they were bought at your local Best Buy etc and then returned. Best Buy will often then ship them back to the manufacturer and Canon resells them for 20-30% off. So when you are ready to purchase again you may want to consider checking Canon’s refurbished site online. Another tidbit is if you have an old Canon lying around they will give you another 15% off if you agree to ship that camera to them and they provide a paid shipping label. I found all of this out just yesterday. Just wanted to share. Have a great weekend!!

Thanks for this info. And the link. One of my sons has been recommending a Canon.

I’d prefer the moonlight because it’s more romantic, but lamplight for consistency.

I agree…a cloud could go in front of the moon, and then you could fall in a hole 🙂

Tell me you didn’t use your iPhone!

I did! My “big girl camera” bit the dust over a month ago and all I have is my iPhone. I keep putting off buying a camera…can’t decide which one I want; and I don’t want to spend a lot of money, either.

The way you’re going with your phone (isn’t it incredible, really) seems you’ve got plenty of time till you have to decide – or is the resolution fine on computers but pretty poor for printing, etc.?

I’m going to get a few printed this weekend, so will see
