Prompt #9: One Day, from BootsnAll 30 Days of Indie Travel Project
Travel helps us better appreciate the present moment instead of always looking to the next thing. Describe one perfect day you had while traveling this year. Where were you? What were you doing? And what made it perfect?
Here we were, staring mortality in the face. A moment in time where I reflected upon the need to enjoy the now. All the time.
I don’t know if it was the beach where the memorial took place, watching the ashes being washed out to sea, the tranquility of the ocean, or the thoughts of the impermanence of our lives, that allowed me to simply be in that time, to exist in that moment only. It was as if each thing I saw was magnified and illuminated, the glittering sand, the otter bobbing close by in the waves, the shore birds scurrying about.
The memorial was followed by a trip farther up the coast to Big Sur and Nepenthe. The serenity, the rugged coast line, the ocean there are magnificent. The beauty is such that you don’t want to think ahead to the next thing. You want to stay there in that moment for as long as you can.
