Travel Lessons

Day 8 of  30 Days of Indie Travel Project from BootsnAll.

Prompt #8: LOVE LEARNING

Travel and learning go hand in hand. Travel teaches us not only about the world and the people in it, but also more about ourselves and our own ideas and values. What has travel taught you this year?

I’ve learned in the last couple of years that travel doesn’t have to be far. Short day trips, long weekends.

It is the fact of getting away from the daily grind, I think.  I was almost going to say getting away from the ordinary, but the ordinary somewhere else is not ordinary, and that’s what makes it so delicious.

Travel is the tutor of the universe, pulling us in to show us how to enjoy its wonders. To show us that there is more to us than our little corner of the world.

I took the photos above during weekend trips, some a little longer than others. Going up the Sierra to Reno/Tahoe, Newport Beach, Big Sur/Nepenthe. I learned of incredible beauty from the places I saw, and openness and goodwill from the people who I met along the way.

‘Travel is the tutor of the universe…’ — so true. We learn so much about the people in places we’ve only read about and we realize that sometimes, what we read about is not that spot-on. As someone once said, ‘Travel is fatal to prejudice’.
