We drove over the Altamont Pass last Saturday to have lunch in San Ramon, a city in the East Bay of San Francisco. We came around a bend in the freeway in Dublin (California) and off to the right was the Big Top for Circus Vargas. Flags were fluttering in the breeze around the Big Top and on trailer trucks in front of the tent.
My heart was doing some fluttering of it’s own….the circus was in town!
My husband and I immediately began to make plans to snag our grandson to bring him to the circus. Our foil, so we could go to the circus, and say “it’s for our grandson that we’re going” . That’s what grandkids are for, right? So you can do fun kid stuff and say it’s for them.
I called our adult daughter, auntie to our grandson, and told her about the circus; she was just as giddy as I was, and then I called uncle, and he wanted to join us. Then auntie’s husband wanted to join us too.
The show’s website states there is a 30 minute “interactive pre-show hosted by Jon Weiss of Amazing Race, for kids of all ages in the center ring. A crash course in juggling, feather balancing, and hula hooping”.
We can’t wait. I think our grandson is going to have to keep us in check.
Saturday afternoon will find us all under the Circus Vargas Big Top.

Oh my god, I love the circus. How did you not pee your pants? Coming across a circus entirely by accident is probably one of the greatest surprises available to your mind.

I tell you, we rounded that corner, and there is this huge purple circus big top with yellow stars and American flags on it and the big transport trucks/vans in front….I wanted to jump out of the car and run there. And you’re right, that had to be one of the best surprises ever!
P.S. No peeing 😉
