It has recently been brought to my attention that my ancestors are waiting in cyberspace, and they have information for me too. A daughter in law started a search on ancestry.com and got me involved over the weekend.
Incredible. I cannot believe the information I’ve discovered so far. My maternal grandmother’s first husband’s name that I never knew. My paternal grandmother’s border crossing records for each time she travelled from California to Mexico and back again. And get this….with her picture that is on the crossing card. Her picture! Also the date she was at the border and renounced her United States residency to permanently reside in Mexico.
I have never given much thought to my paternal grandmother’s life before I knew her. I was never given much information about her. I did know her and spent one summer caring for her because I was the granddaughter that was going to go to nursing school, so everyone figured I was the natural choice. This was my “Tita”.
That’s her on the left of the picture with her son, my Dad, above her in the hat.
