The clarinet player I met on San Francisco’s Embarcadero a couple of years ago; he started playing in 1947 when he was young, and hasn’t stopped.  I haven’t seen him the last few times I’ve been in the City. I hope he is well, and continues to play beautiful music where ever he is. I keep running by this photo in my files, and the very thought of hearing that lovely clarinet down by the waterfront makes me stop every time.

A bit of brightness to start the week.  Thanks to Lens and Pens by Sally, you can visit her post here, where she has some awesome macros, and a discussion on iPhone Camera+ features, which I use pretty much exclusively for my iPhoneography.

It’s National Train Day. What wonderful memories I have of trips from San Antonio, Texas into Mexico on the train when I was young. Not on the ATSF, but I think it was the Missouri Pacific.  The train had a change of engines at the border, and I can recall the jostling and bumping as they unhooked the American engine, and hooked up the Mexican locomotive, to continue the journey into Mexico.  It was at least a three-day trip with Pullman cars that had sleeping berths or private compartments that had fold down berths for sleeping, a dining car for meals, but much more fun to buy food from the vendors in the stations of the little towns we stopped at along the way. It was always an adventure.
