I have taken the unusual measure of making a resolution this year. I have resolved to take more people photos this year, in order to increase my photography skills. I actually started yesterday with my photo The Fishmonger. Today I offer the following photo to show that I am at least resolute for two days.
Every photo I post this year will not be a people photo, but I do resolve to increase them throughout the year. This has led to a second resolution, that I get out more amongst people on the weekends (I work from home during the week), and take photos of faces.

Often I’m shy away from taking pictures of people, don’t know how they react… This is a nice photo!

I have been shy too. But lately working up my courage. I’ve read a lot of posts from photographers about this, and that has helped me. Only time will tell how comfortable I can be doing this.

I still have a long way to go. That is one of the reasons I want to do the 365 self-portrait challenge. If by the end I can take good photos of me then I figure I can take them of anyone.
😉
And I will hopefull really understand how the camera works and what I can do with it. That is his reasoning behind the challenge. If you have to shoot the same thing over and over then you have to 1) get creative and 2) know how your camera works so you can try diferrent things.

The 365 challenge, whether it be a self portrait, or just a daily random photo really helps you improve your work and increases creativity. My 365 did amazing things for me, so it also boosts self esteem 🙂
Knowing how your camera works is another plus….would you believe I’m just starting to go back through the manual on my Canon that I got about nine months ago because I know I could do better if I understood some of the settings better. I get so impatient reading manuals.

I think that’s a resolution worth pursuing Angeline – especially as you don’t mix it with the world at work. This guy seems to be enjoying his – was he cooking for you?

I really knew that it was time to start taking photos of people, not just landscapes, etc. I study other photographer’s blogs that do the street photography and portraits and I just want to go out there to see what I can do. This chef was cooking for us in Hawaii at a Benihana restaurant. Always fun to sit around a big table, meet the other people at the table, and interact with the chef who is preparing the food right there. The chef was quite the comedian!
