We’ve spent nights at the Oakland Marriott in the past, so I didn’t give a thought to my usual inspection and scrutiny of the hotel’s website for last weekend’s getaway, like I always do when we’re booking a hotel for a trip. I usually like to look at photos of the hotel rooms, lobby, restaurants and bars, and read reviews on Trip Advisor too. I like to get the scoop on what rooms have the best views, and what amenities might be available. It’s all part of the fun in planning a trip.
What a wonderful surprise to see the hotel’s very recent renovations. This stay was much more than expected. The press release I just found online says that the hotel renovation “celebrates Oakland’s Jazz and Blues Culture”; and that it does.
My husband and I stopped by the Twelve Bar Lounge Saturday night, on the hotel’s second level, for a glass of wine before having to leave to meet family for dinner elsewhere. The music was just starting, and from the first piece we heard I knew it was going to be good. I really wish we could have stayed, it promised to be a good evening of jazz.
I wandered around the hotel lobby, and second level taking some photos of posters that are placed so nicely throughout. It lends to the whole feeling.

WoW! Quite the place eh? Sounds like a great place to hang out…

It’s been a hectic week and I’m now catching up with everyone.
Happy July 4th weekend to you!
Elizabeth
